Post Spore

currently listening to : 王力宏 - 心跳

i am home after a 8 wonderful days of holiday in singapore. pictures coming up soon! (hopefully). my ultimate goal was to visit the bestie who is currently residing in singapore, the land of all stresses ; P in short, the trip was a success : ) i had great fun. shopping was saddening due to the unreasonable exchange rate. food was mediocre standard. company was good. why oh why do we not have holidays everyday. i love cities but not singapore - why? becos everywhere is crowded/jam-packed every single minute and seconds. suffocating :S and part of my lack of shoppingness for clothes was becos i no longer have the energy or enthusiasm to push and shove everyone just to get my hands on a shirt. and no, i will not wait 1 hour in line just to try 1 piece of clothing : P and the worse part, public toilets in shopping malls are always always ALWAYS filled with ppl..i dun recall once in spore where i don't have to be in line just to go pee :S argh! in my opinion, i really still very much prefer malaysia : )

makan makan

ever since i came home last saturday..all i've done is eat eat and eat. i've eaten so much food its not even funny :S (especially when the figure for my weight count is increasing exponentially by the day..). places that i've makan about so far :

  • jin xuan hong kong for dimsum - i reckon melb's dim sum is actually much nicer
  • little penang cafe @ mid valley - one of the places that i must go every year when im home..their ice kacang is the best! it's one of those very few places that serves ice kacang with rootbeer as their topping : D
  • delicious @ 1U - my first time to this rather pricey cafe(?). their main dish (i ordered spicy seafood spaghetti was just alright for its price.) but i must say their dessert (which i ordered applelicious with vanilla ice cream) was really quite good for msian standard : ) but its rm12.90 for 1 apple pie..hphm..expensive.
  • zen @ pyramid - japanese food in a classy looking restaurant, i went in with shorts..and i actually felt quite inappropriate considering everyone around me was in dresses :S since when msians are so dressy while visiting shopping malls?? my chicken katsu don set cost me rm30 : ( but again, the food was really quite good : ) or maybe im being less picky..
  • pantai seafood restaurant - chinese food *yum yum* had my favourite kangkong belacan ; )
thats as far as i can remember at the moment, shall continue the list in a weeks time to remind myself how freaking fat i am :S

HELP @ PBD

i went to renew my passport at pusat bandar damansara today, it's actually where my college is. the immigration office is just a couple of doors away from my college. it has been a long while since i came back to HELP, in fact, if my memory serves me right, the last time i was here, it was with yijun to collect my a levels certificate. looking back it's almost 5 years since i left HELP. time does fly..scarily fast. i was trying to look for the "zhai man" today but unfortunately i don't think mr zhai is there anymore (those from HELP would know what im talking about - he serves the best curry mutton ever!..i still remember those crazy days when we were so desperate to buy his food till we even helped him to set up his stall by the roadside). actually, nothing seems the same there anymore. its way crowded than before. and many new shops have actually opened there - secret recipe, watson's just to name a few. the level 4 building that we used to have our classes..i don't think its there anymore (i actually din take the lift up but there wasnt any student hanging around, so im guessing they closed it down?). nevertheless, while i was walking past KFC - i remembered how jinweng used to tease me saying how he never got to eat KFC in peace since he befriended me cos i despise KFC : P, while i stroll past starbucks - i remembered how i used to sit there waiting for transport, while i walked past pizza hut, i remembered the time we had our lunch together as a group after our exams..and of course, mcdees!! our daily brekkies together : ) the good ol' memories...a levels was fun..1.5 years whizz by so fast!

went jalan-jalan with mummy @ mid valley today before heading back to collect my new passport. i came home empty handed! omg. seriously i didn't even see anything nice..anything that make me slightly wanna buy it..hphm..is it me being more n more picky? or isit fashion in msia is not right for me? keke

airport drama

my semester 8 exams ended on friday -5/12 late afternoon. melissa and i went back to pack and settle most of our apartment issues before heading to the airport for our midnight flight. i somehow was not as excited as i thought i would be but nevertheless, was very thankful that exams are over and holidays begin now. i didn't manage to get much sleep throughout the entire journey and as i was expected i looked very "chan". while waiting for our luggage, suddenly there was an announcement which went something like this "ms chong "lai" chia from flight mh128 flying from melb to kl pls report to *mumbles mumbles*". our first reaction was to stare at each other in the most disbelief face. the announcement went for 4 times - twice in english twice in bm. what happened was, melissa and i checked in 3 luggages together, i had two melissa had 1. the guy told me that 1 of the 3 luggages were left in melbourne and would only arrive later that night. i cannot imagine what would have happened if it was mine that was left behind because my dress for my brother's wedding dinner was inside my luggage. anyway, it was melissa's luggage. thankfully for her nothing really important was in her luggage. their reason for her left behind luggage was - stuck in the conveyer belt. wth. that's not a reason! airport drama for the first and hopefully the last time...

birthdays

currently listening to : broken - lifehouse

friday : spontaneous random outing with pg and bs @ starbucks catching up : D i had fun. very awesome if everyday was like that.

saturday : kaisin and i met up to pick a pressie for melly's 23rd. i managed to buy a top for myself - i take it as a self motivation tool and reminder for me to study (but it's not working..im still procrastinating!). mel had her bday at uropa's function hall which was nicely decorated with black and white helium balloons..roses petals (reminded me of an engagement party). after the eating - her mum prepared most/all of the food (the greatness of mums really..), the party started off with speeches from her dad and a couple of friends. there were performances by the bday girl herself and a couple of her friends - guitar strumming and singing : ) i had to leave after we sang the bday song for kim's bday at some korean restaurant that i can't spell. arrived before the bday cake was presented thankfully. the night ended at about before 11 but because the traffic in the city were all clogged up - tim only managed to pick us up before 12. hence, we reached home just before 1. (melissa and i waited in the cold @ bourke st for more than an hour... note : i was wearing a skirt with minimal protection from my thin jacket)

3 weeks!

currently listening to : 你 - 林依晨

i have been thinking alot lately about going home. its officially 3 weeks from home. this time around in 3 weeks time i'll be home attending my brother's big day. i have so many things that i want to do, places that i want to go, food that i want to eat, friends that i want to meet...8 weeks of holidays seem so short (in fact, i think it is memang short). 19 weeks of continuous clinical studies is not even funny, its extremely taxing - mentally and emotionally. and 3 weeks from the mid-finishing line, i feel like stopping. stop running, stop walking, stop caring and stop stressing. i honestly just want to go home...(prays to god that i don't fail my osce from all my procrastination lately)

on another note, makan place that im looking forward to :
- the loaf : overpriced bread/food apparently but i still wanna try (at least once) : P
- chilli's : serves the best southwestern eggrolls
- secret recipe's : tom yam kung (not as spicy as i want it to be but its not bad)
- paddington's pancake : msia's version of sydney's pancake on the rock
- cupcake chic : haven't tried this but saw the lovely pics online : D
- homi curry puff : weekly consumption of curry puff from my fave curry puff stall :P
- shih lin taiwan street snack : mee suah and fried chicken : D drool
- coffee bean : sunrise (orange juice + milk)

cant wait cant wait..

34 Celcius

currently listening to : 痛彻心扉 - 张栋梁

the erratic nature of melbourne's weather is really annoying. today the weather went up till 34C (apparently, i reckon it was higher than that mid afternoon). usually i would be more than happy to be greeted by bright sunny days but today, it was just too much of it. i nearly melt under the scorching sun while i was travelling (walking) home from hospital despite wearing short sleeve and skirt. the weather was so hot i decided to take a nap and annoyingly, it was an interrupted nap due to the hot hot weather (i felt like i was in an oven) .

currently, im blasting my ceiling fan...and i opened my balcony doors as well. a stupid fly flew in and refuse to get out. argh. i was running around the room with a paper to shoo it away and it is still here...omg. how to sleep with that buzzing sound....zzzz....arghhhhh

so "lucky"

currently listening to : 爱在记忆中找你 - Raymond Lam

i cannot believe my luck. i had 1 in 6 chance and i was so "lucky" : ( im talking about the weekly case presentation we have in austin (2 from the entire batch will present weekly to the dean) and OMG im scheduled for a case presentation = public humiliation in week 3 (6/11). i swear i had that 6th sense feeling of getting picked on sunday before the list was out...and damn, how i wish for once my 6th sense was so wrong. till my highly possible public embarassment, i will stress and rant 24/7 about it : P *runs around screaming like im mad*.

i like spring but i don't like strong winds + pollen (hayfever? im not sure) because im down with a flu, sorethroat and soon to be fever since last week. i cannot breathe... : (

almost done with block 6

currently listening to : 周杰倫 - 魔杰座

im in my final week of block 6 - GIT & Hepatobiliary & Gen Surgery. it really amazes me how time passes by so so fast in clinicals (it's passing by as though i have exams 24/7..). next week i'll be starting my 3rd and final block for this semester - neurology & opthalmology & ENT (i am so not looking fo
rward to this block, if you knew me well enough you would probably know why). however, i am so looking forwards to going home in less than 8 weeks time. i desperately need a long holiday and some time with my family. and most of all, away from hospital and clinical life for a while...

my share of block 6 - too much time wasting waiting in the wards for tutes to happen. me no like surgeons that much anymore and my thing for surgery is officially over. i heart my previous block so much more - haem, ID and infectious disease. argh...i hope things are not going downhill from my first block..i need good things to happen in my last block *crosses fingers* jia you for the last 7-8 weeks of sem 8!! *rawrrr*

picnic

currently listening to : 周杰倫 - 稻香

spring is here! 29C today hence we decided to berpicnic at carlton's garden (and also to celebrate wee jie and wen hao's bday). chungyew n i met up at kaisin's house to prepare egg mayo sandwiches and dim sim for the pot luck and our lil picnic started at about 1+. after everyone's arrival we started eating all the yummy food (sze yuen's muffins, weejie's fried bihun, random kfc from dunno where etc)..the weather was slightly too hot and windy (it was so windy that sze yuen's chicken flew towards wen hao spontaneously). i had trouble eating as well cos my hair was flying around my face. kai sin brought oreo (the dog) and a picnic mat along too to add to the "picnic feel". hehe. after eating, we split into 2 groups of 5 and played taboo. fun fun : D n our team - awesom possum (created by wen hao) won! wheeeeee! btw, it was my first time playing taboo keke. quite fun : ) reminds me of the game in 'super trio show'.

damn, weekends are over. monday blues all over again : (

currently listening to : 右手边 - 光良

the tvb drama "moonlight resonance" that i've been following is coming to an 2 hour finale tomorrow. excited! hopefully its a good ending :D (may raymond lam wins the best actor this year..hehe).

2 weeks into my 2nd rotation - git & gen surgery : hphm. i find myself m
issing my first rotation more and more..which is really kinda odd because i've always thought i'll like GI & gen surg more. maybe its because i miss my previous tutors and the fact that i have to start learning a bunch of new stuff. okay, i shall not complain because i can foresee i'll complain much more when my 3rd rotation starts - neuro *shakes head* so not looking forward to it : ( i need a holiday (very very much needed)...n i miss home. here's a picture from kang meng's 24th bday with special "added light effects" hehe

currently listening to : 不,完美 - 李玖哲

weekends are the best time of the week : ) dinner @ big mama (again..this place is sucking all my money..argh) and dessert @ san churros. we ordered way too much chocolate and i was happy the whole night (must be the high dose of chocolate!). 2 plates of churros, 2 suckao like drink, 1 buddha baci and 1 cup of chocolate drink for 4 person (thank god for the vouchers that eng kiat has..or else we would be paying way more than aud6 per person..hehe). good times really..pg, hang in there at rmh and always remember we're here for you : D ps : we so must meet up more often (no excuses..i don't care if you have to study : P keke)

ahem. why am i not surprised by my temporary hiatus in blogging since the commencement of clinicals. hehe. i am quite predictable : ) its sunday today hence i shall not elaborate about clinicals (i'll leave that to rant about on a weekday). a couple of pictures from dinner @ big mama and max brenner with the gang yesterday. good times and good food : ) i ate 3/4 of the choc brownie and 2 pieces of the chocolate pizza (fattening but i honestly didn't bother much...i just wanted to eat and eat..cos chocolates make me very happy..wheee). the 8-5 routine begins again tomorrow. i am so going to have monday blues : (

First Week of Clinicals @ Austin

currently listening to : 梁静茹 - 不是我不明白

the weekends are here finally! i am looking forward to waking up at 11am instead of my 7am routine for the past week. so after 1 week of orientation at the austin i can safely say i think i made the right choice by putting it as my first choice for clinical school (and i was very lucky to get my first choice). its kinda hard to tell how effective their teaching would be since my official teaching only starts next week BUT the environment here is absolutely great : ) i really love the idea of getting revision tutes on the basic physical examinations by semester 10 students (i honestly think they taught us really well, and they were very kind to share their knowledge on what was important and gave us really good tips..at least, i felt we have a really good support not just from the clinical school but from the seniors as well) - and im not sure how supportive it is at the other clinical schools. i personally thought our dean, a/prof richard o'brien is very friendly and i guess he gave me the impression that he really cared..so hopefully he's really good. i am also thankful that i was allocated to my current group, i think we possibly could work pretty well together (I HOPE) (the president and vice president of AMSS is in my group! hehe)..and most ppl have only 1 clinical buddy...guess what? i have TWO : ) yay to that! after 1 week of being in the hospital, i think i've developed a syndrome - to hunt for free food in hospital and be paranoid about infection control (I LOVE the moisturizing lotion they provide in wards..its addictive!). i'll be starting on my first block @ the austin (haematology, oncology, infectious disease and breast) next week so..*fingers crossed* hopefully everything will be good and FUN : )

Boo Hoo

currently listening to : 王子的新衣 - 萧敬腾

semester 8 begins tomorrow! its not just any ordinary semester..it's the commencement of my clinical years in austin hospital. i am feeling very lazy, emofied and a bit traumatized over the uncertainties of my upcoming 19 weeks. shall keep this quote in mind 'when the going gets tough, the tough gets going' *crosses fingers* on a brighter note, flying home is just round the corner : D (ahem..maybe a couple of rounds lah..hehe)

this is a picture that i like to use as my msn display pic during swot vacs & exam periods to express my worried-ness. and now, i think it's time to show this pic again today..ehehe

Yum Cha @ Shark Fins Inn

currently listening to : 相知相拥 - 无印良品

i went to the city today to buy my coursework books (very last minute as usual..hehe). met up with PG at her home to put down my heavy books. i gave her a list of places to makan and asked her to decide "choose either big mama, ying thai, rose garden, yum cha". surprisingly she chose yum cha and we spontaneously went to sharks fin inn for yum cha : ) i so have to introduce a very yummy dish that i don't think can be found in msia (or maybe you can now..but i realise not many ppl know this thing actually exists). its called "char leong" - my must-call dish during yum cha sessions (besides egg tarts). its actually yao char kuey wrapped with chee cheong fun. i first found out about this dish when i visited hong kong many many years back and i remembered so clearly this dish cos it was so delicious! a must try if you havent try before... : D after that, we went to shop at DFO @ spencer street (i just window shopped, PG bought a long jacket - sorry woman, i just have to announce to the world that you bought a long jacket..hehe). we finished walking around DFO pretty quick, so we jalan somemore around the city. due to the impending clinical school stress, both of us went to indulge in the very sinful max brenner - yummy choc nut brownies and waffles! went to pick up my books from her home before dropping by at melisa's home for dinner with a couple of other friends : ) i received a very belated bday pressie from char today - a pair of pretty pink socks from sportsgirl (its not the typical socks that you wear out, it's those that you wear at home to keep warm during winter and it has pretty buckles on it, so it actually looks like a pair of baby shoes - darn im bad at describing! should have taken a pic instead..heehe) *hugs hugs*

ps : PG - i dislike you for not putting austin as your clinical school because i am going to miss walking to school together with you (and every other crazy things that we did during pre-clinicals - so not going to jot it down now...cannot ber-emo..anyway i think you know what i mean since you can practically read my mind almost all the time..hehe) : ( we shall jia you together okay?

Mornington Peninsula

currently listening to : 猪先生- 许志安

chungyew, kangmeng, weejie and i went on a mornington peninsula road trip last monday. it was quite a spontaneous thing hence, the last minute gathering and planning. we left the city just before 9 in the
morning (i was dead tired as usual as my sleeping time has been long messed up). we were very fortunate that the weather was super good that day - sunny and bright : ) our first stop was the main street of mornington peninsula. according to the brochure i took from the information center, that street was suppose to house a couple of historic buildings. but from my point of view, the length of the street is almost equivalent to burgundy street @ heidelberg and the so-called historic buildings wasnt very impressive (there was one building that used to be a bank, but it is now replaced by subway *sweat*). we had brunch at a cafe along the main street - i had a plate of bacon and eggs which was very salty. chung yew and i bought pastries from frank's bakery (highly recommended - my german apple crumble tasted really good!). our next stop, schnapper point - its basically a spot facing the sea. we then drove to arthur's seat - another picture taking spot. there's a huge chair in the garden (similar to the chair at surfer's paradise gold coast). our next spot, aschcombe maze & lavendar gardens - it's suppose to be the largest garden maze in australia (kononnya). i think this place was the biggest dissapointment of the day, the maze was alright (as in, a huge maze lor but the soil was a bit muddy and wet - quite membencikan). the ultimate blow was the rose maze - it was a maze without any blooming rose, just left over branches of rose trees. very memspeechlesskan. the rest of the garden was also a waste of time cos it's merely just a patch of not very green field with a couple of rocks here and there. boo hoo. i can't believe i wasted aud13 to enter. sniff sniff. we continued our journey to a couple more places as we need to only arrive at our last destination before 6pm. we stopped by at cape schanck and rye pier before reaching peninsula hot springs just before 6pm. its quite relaxing to end a long road trip there. we berendam in hot springs for almost 2 hours before heading back to the city. was dead tired when i reach home at 11+pm. all in all, another successful trip and to top it off, we planned it all by ourselves (thanks to boonshih for providing me with last minute destinations..hehe)

Last Week of Sem7 hols

currently listening to : 会呼吸的痛 - 梁静茹

2 months of winter holidays came and gone by...good times indeed past by quickly : ( here i am at the last week of my sem 7 holidays, i feel abit emo actually. how i wish my holidays would last longer..and my daily routine would consist of sleeping, eating and chatting only without any exam stresses (tee hee..yeap yeap quite a pig indeed). this morning (or rather nearly afternoon) the first 5 seconds when i woke up...the first image i saw was actually the surroundings of my room in malaysia. i honestly had that 5 seconds feeling of being back in my comfy room in msia. then i rubbed my eyes again, and the surrounding looked abit unfamiliar again. then i realise, argh its my room in melbourne. just to clarify, i am not unhappy in melbourne, im just missing home at the moment. and being really greedy, while my current holidays are coming to an end...i am thinking about my end year holidays. how i am going to visit every major shopping centre in KL, sleepovers in my besties homes, brekkies with my parents :D ooo..and of course, my brother's wedding!

to my wonderful 2 besties, congrats! i now have 2 additional super hot graduates as besties : ) hehe (i am sincere okay)

Mt Buller

currently listening to : 雨天 - 孙燕姿

the journey to mt buller took approximately 4 hours. but as we inch closer to our destination, i felt that excitement because that would be my first time actually seeing snow : ) i am thankful for my super thick roxy jacket because i would have turned into a walking ice cube without it. we reached mt buller at about 10-11am, the temperature was slightly below 0C. i find the combination of sun + snow very beautiful. most of the pictures that we took came out really nice due to that combination too i guess : ) we spent most of our time exploring the village, taking pictures, playing with snow and basically just having a good time. we didn't opt for the skiing combo because we reckon it was a bit too expensive and we also have limited time to do so (perhaps another trip in the future? hehe). i loved the ski lift, however it was slightly too short of duration. it was indeed a great feeling to be above the snow covered land and mountain : ) we left mt buller at about 4pm and reached city only at about 8pm+. i was already dead tired by then. we went for dinner @ the spicy noodle house and i was on my way back to heidelberg after that. end note : another successful and fun trip **hugss**

Pre-Mt Buller

currently listening to : 我不配 - 周杰伦

we were scheduled to leave the city to mt buller at approximately 5.45AM (Note : AM, in the morning, WTH). since it would be almost impossible for me to arrive on time if i were to leave my home at heidelberg at 5AM and the fact it was quite dangerous to travel alone that early, pg and i decided to camp at bs's home for the night. after meeting up, pg n i bought bread just in case we were hungry the next day. we then head
to bs's home to lepak. pg as usual wanted to sleep early (in fact she went to bed at about 10+pm) leaving bs and i to chat. it's always nice to catch up since the last time we properly chatted was before i left for sydney and before bs left for adelaide. at about 1am, bs and i were still pretty much wide awake. pg started making ghostly sounds...and screamed 'she cannot sleep..etc etc'. it was a pretty hilarious scene actually. instead of comforting her, bs and i couldnt help but to laugh VERY LOUDLY. becos she claimed that the lights was disrupting her, bs turned off the lights and used a torchlight instead to look for his gloves. again, words kenot describe the scene. hehe. i went to bed at about 1+ to try to get a few hours of sleep, but i ended up tossing and turning the whole time. reasons being : pg was tossing and turning alot hence, i couldnt really sleep. bs has a super thin blanket which cannot be termed as a blanket because its thickness is equivalent to my towel. pg and i were freezing and we started stealing each other's heat by placing our feet on each other's feet but becos we both dun generate heat, it was cold feet touching cold feet. both of us had sleepless nights really...but bs was sleeping soundly like a pig : P pg n i gave up finally at 4am. we woke bs up and complained about his blanket, pillow, room and heater. despite all the complains, i think we all had a wonderful time catching up..we had so much laughters, i am convinced ian was cursing in his heart for the noise that we made. hehehe. we were all ready by 4.45am and left his home at 5am. we waited for weejie before walking to the city to catch the travel bus. i bought a latte from hungry jacks (which tasted nothing spectacular) while bs bought a breakfast set from mcd's (refer to picture for his super mini size orange juice).

i have the "can-barely-open-my-eyes" look & bs with his mini orange juice

Corn

currently listening to : 思念是一种病 - 张震岳

one of aldi's weekly
special this week was corn - 4 half corns for 99c. i actually have a thing against corn (pls dun ask me why because i don't know why i dislike corn either). but 99c for 4 corn was too good of a bargain, i just had to buy it. i tried psyching myself to buy it cos i remembered how the last one i had in sydney was not too bad and also partially, i wanna try to expand the circle of food that i eat (trying to be less picky here..). this morning i steamed 2 half corn, put a lil bit of salt and ate it while it was hot. after finishing 1, i felt super jelak and my hatred towards corn came back. i put the remaining corn out of sight becos the smell of it was enough to make me even more jelak. my conclusion is, i still dislike corn BUT at least i tried liking it : ) hehe. (what am i going to do with the remaining 2 corns? any takers?)

dropped by the city to meet up with keng seng. its been a while since we last met. he shopped, i window shopped (li chia is officially broke and has to ikat perut for the coming months..hehe). i bought a pastry called taro bomb @ greening. its actually really nice - with lots of "real" taro. dinner was at nasi lemak house - i feel the standard of the nasi lemak is deteriorating. i remember how back in first year, the sambal was super spicy but now, i dun think its that spicy anymore (either they made it less spicy now or my tolerance is getting higher). and somehow i was feel my tummy doesnt feel very right each time after a meal there. but its still a relatively good place to go to if i have that sudden craving for msian food. we ended the night with dessert @ freddos - green tea and roche : )

keng seng is quite gelojoh : P

but i am worse, because i dun have to eat to look gelojoh : (
