First Week of Clinicals @ Austin

currently listening to : 梁静茹 - 不是我不明白

the weekends are here finally! i am looking forward to waking up at 11am instead of my 7am routine for the past week. so after 1 week of orientation at the austin i can safely say i think i made the right choice by putting it as my first choice for clinical school (and i was very lucky to get my first choice). its kinda hard to tell how effective their teaching would be since my official teaching only starts next week BUT the environment here is absolutely great : ) i really love the idea of getting revision tutes on the basic physical examinations by semester 10 students (i honestly think they taught us really well, and they were very kind to share their knowledge on what was important and gave us really good tips..at least, i felt we have a really good support not just from the clinical school but from the seniors as well) - and im not sure how supportive it is at the other clinical schools. i personally thought our dean, a/prof richard o'brien is very friendly and i guess he gave me the impression that he really cared..so hopefully he's really good. i am also thankful that i was allocated to my current group, i think we possibly could work pretty well together (I HOPE) (the president and vice president of AMSS is in my group! hehe)..and most ppl have only 1 clinical buddy...guess what? i have TWO : ) yay to that! after 1 week of being in the hospital, i think i've developed a syndrome - to hunt for free food in hospital and be paranoid about infection control (I LOVE the moisturizing lotion they provide in wards..its addictive!). i'll be starting on my first block @ the austin (haematology, oncology, infectious disease and breast) next week so..*fingers crossed* hopefully everything will be good and FUN : )

Boo Hoo

currently listening to : 王子的新衣 - 萧敬腾

semester 8 begins tomorrow! its not just any ordinary semester..it's the commencement of my clinical years in austin hospital. i am feeling very lazy, emofied and a bit traumatized over the uncertainties of my upcoming 19 weeks. shall keep this quote in mind 'when the going gets tough, the tough gets going' *crosses fingers* on a brighter note, flying home is just round the corner : D (ahem..maybe a couple of rounds lah..hehe)

this is a picture that i like to use as my msn display pic during swot vacs & exam periods to express my worried-ness. and now, i think it's time to show this pic again today..ehehe

Yum Cha @ Shark Fins Inn

currently listening to : 相知相拥 - 无印良品

i went to the city today to buy my coursework books (very last minute as usual..hehe). met up with PG at her home to put down my heavy books. i gave her a list of places to makan and asked her to decide "choose either big mama, ying thai, rose garden, yum cha". surprisingly she chose yum cha and we spontaneously went to sharks fin inn for yum cha : ) i so have to introduce a very yummy dish that i don't think can be found in msia (or maybe you can now..but i realise not many ppl know this thing actually exists). its called "char leong" - my must-call dish during yum cha sessions (besides egg tarts). its actually yao char kuey wrapped with chee cheong fun. i first found out about this dish when i visited hong kong many many years back and i remembered so clearly this dish cos it was so delicious! a must try if you havent try before... : D after that, we went to shop at DFO @ spencer street (i just window shopped, PG bought a long jacket - sorry woman, i just have to announce to the world that you bought a long jacket..hehe). we finished walking around DFO pretty quick, so we jalan somemore around the city. due to the impending clinical school stress, both of us went to indulge in the very sinful max brenner - yummy choc nut brownies and waffles! went to pick up my books from her home before dropping by at melisa's home for dinner with a couple of other friends : ) i received a very belated bday pressie from char today - a pair of pretty pink socks from sportsgirl (its not the typical socks that you wear out, it's those that you wear at home to keep warm during winter and it has pretty buckles on it, so it actually looks like a pair of baby shoes - darn im bad at describing! should have taken a pic instead..heehe) *hugs hugs*

ps : PG - i dislike you for not putting austin as your clinical school because i am going to miss walking to school together with you (and every other crazy things that we did during pre-clinicals - so not going to jot it down now...cannot ber-emo..anyway i think you know what i mean since you can practically read my mind almost all the time..hehe) : ( we shall jia you together okay?

Mornington Peninsula

currently listening to : 猪先生- 许志安

chungyew, kangmeng, weejie and i went on a mornington peninsula road trip last monday. it was quite a spontaneous thing hence, the last minute gathering and planning. we left the city just before 9 in the
morning (i was dead tired as usual as my sleeping time has been long messed up). we were very fortunate that the weather was super good that day - sunny and bright : ) our first stop was the main street of mornington peninsula. according to the brochure i took from the information center, that street was suppose to house a couple of historic buildings. but from my point of view, the length of the street is almost equivalent to burgundy street @ heidelberg and the so-called historic buildings wasnt very impressive (there was one building that used to be a bank, but it is now replaced by subway *sweat*). we had brunch at a cafe along the main street - i had a plate of bacon and eggs which was very salty. chung yew and i bought pastries from frank's bakery (highly recommended - my german apple crumble tasted really good!). our next stop, schnapper point - its basically a spot facing the sea. we then drove to arthur's seat - another picture taking spot. there's a huge chair in the garden (similar to the chair at surfer's paradise gold coast). our next spot, aschcombe maze & lavendar gardens - it's suppose to be the largest garden maze in australia (kononnya). i think this place was the biggest dissapointment of the day, the maze was alright (as in, a huge maze lor but the soil was a bit muddy and wet - quite membencikan). the ultimate blow was the rose maze - it was a maze without any blooming rose, just left over branches of rose trees. very memspeechlesskan. the rest of the garden was also a waste of time cos it's merely just a patch of not very green field with a couple of rocks here and there. boo hoo. i can't believe i wasted aud13 to enter. sniff sniff. we continued our journey to a couple more places as we need to only arrive at our last destination before 6pm. we stopped by at cape schanck and rye pier before reaching peninsula hot springs just before 6pm. its quite relaxing to end a long road trip there. we berendam in hot springs for almost 2 hours before heading back to the city. was dead tired when i reach home at 11+pm. all in all, another successful trip and to top it off, we planned it all by ourselves (thanks to boonshih for providing me with last minute destinations..hehe)

Last Week of Sem7 hols

currently listening to : 会呼吸的痛 - 梁静茹

2 months of winter holidays came and gone by...good times indeed past by quickly : ( here i am at the last week of my sem 7 holidays, i feel abit emo actually. how i wish my holidays would last longer..and my daily routine would consist of sleeping, eating and chatting only without any exam stresses (tee hee..yeap yeap quite a pig indeed). this morning (or rather nearly afternoon) the first 5 seconds when i woke up...the first image i saw was actually the surroundings of my room in malaysia. i honestly had that 5 seconds feeling of being back in my comfy room in msia. then i rubbed my eyes again, and the surrounding looked abit unfamiliar again. then i realise, argh its my room in melbourne. just to clarify, i am not unhappy in melbourne, im just missing home at the moment. and being really greedy, while my current holidays are coming to an end...i am thinking about my end year holidays. how i am going to visit every major shopping centre in KL, sleepovers in my besties homes, brekkies with my parents :D ooo..and of course, my brother's wedding!

to my wonderful 2 besties, congrats! i now have 2 additional super hot graduates as besties : ) hehe (i am sincere okay)

Mt Buller

currently listening to : 雨天 - 孙燕姿

the journey to mt buller took approximately 4 hours. but as we inch closer to our destination, i felt that excitement because that would be my first time actually seeing snow : ) i am thankful for my super thick roxy jacket because i would have turned into a walking ice cube without it. we reached mt buller at about 10-11am, the temperature was slightly below 0C. i find the combination of sun + snow very beautiful. most of the pictures that we took came out really nice due to that combination too i guess : ) we spent most of our time exploring the village, taking pictures, playing with snow and basically just having a good time. we didn't opt for the skiing combo because we reckon it was a bit too expensive and we also have limited time to do so (perhaps another trip in the future? hehe). i loved the ski lift, however it was slightly too short of duration. it was indeed a great feeling to be above the snow covered land and mountain : ) we left mt buller at about 4pm and reached city only at about 8pm+. i was already dead tired by then. we went for dinner @ the spicy noodle house and i was on my way back to heidelberg after that. end note : another successful and fun trip **hugss**

i know you're way taller than me okay..

white is my favourite color : )

i heart you guys : )

Pre-Mt Buller

currently listening to : 我不配 - 周杰伦

we were scheduled to leave the city to mt buller at approximately 5.45AM (Note : AM, in the morning, WTH). since it would be almost impossible for me to arrive on time if i were to leave my home at heidelberg at 5AM and the fact it was quite dangerous to travel alone that early, pg and i decided to camp at bs's home for the night. after meeting up, pg n i bought bread just in case we were hungry the next day. we then head
to bs's home to lepak. pg as usual wanted to sleep early (in fact she went to bed at about 10+pm) leaving bs and i to chat. it's always nice to catch up since the last time we properly chatted was before i left for sydney and before bs left for adelaide. at about 1am, bs and i were still pretty much wide awake. pg started making ghostly sounds...and screamed 'she cannot sleep..etc etc'. it was a pretty hilarious scene actually. instead of comforting her, bs and i couldnt help but to laugh VERY LOUDLY. becos she claimed that the lights was disrupting her, bs turned off the lights and used a torchlight instead to look for his gloves. again, words kenot describe the scene. hehe. i went to bed at about 1+ to try to get a few hours of sleep, but i ended up tossing and turning the whole time. reasons being : pg was tossing and turning alot hence, i couldnt really sleep. bs has a super thin blanket which cannot be termed as a blanket because its thickness is equivalent to my towel. pg and i were freezing and we started stealing each other's heat by placing our feet on each other's feet but becos we both dun generate heat, it was cold feet touching cold feet. both of us had sleepless nights really...but bs was sleeping soundly like a pig : P pg n i gave up finally at 4am. we woke bs up and complained about his blanket, pillow, room and heater. despite all the complains, i think we all had a wonderful time catching up..we had so much laughters, i am convinced ian was cursing in his heart for the noise that we made. hehehe. we were all ready by 4.45am and left his home at 5am. we waited for weejie before walking to the city to catch the travel bus. i bought a latte from hungry jacks (which tasted nothing spectacular) while bs bought a breakfast set from mcd's (refer to picture for his super mini size orange juice).

i have the "can-barely-open-my-eyes" look & bs with his mini orange juice

Corn

currently listening to : 思念是一种病 - 张震岳

one of aldi's weekly
special this week was corn - 4 half corns for 99c. i actually have a thing against corn (pls dun ask me why because i don't know why i dislike corn either). but 99c for 4 corn was too good of a bargain, i just had to buy it. i tried psyching myself to buy it cos i remembered how the last one i had in sydney was not too bad and also partially, i wanna try to expand the circle of food that i eat (trying to be less picky here..). this morning i steamed 2 half corn, put a lil bit of salt and ate it while it was hot. after finishing 1, i felt super jelak and my hatred towards corn came back. i put the remaining corn out of sight becos the smell of it was enough to make me even more jelak. my conclusion is, i still dislike corn BUT at least i tried liking it : ) hehe. (what am i going to do with the remaining 2 corns? any takers?)

dropped by the city to meet up with keng seng. its been a while since we last met. he shopped, i window shopped (li chia is officially broke and has to ikat perut for the coming months..hehe). i bought a pastry called taro bomb @ greening. its actually really nice - with lots of "real" taro. dinner was at nasi lemak house - i feel the standard of the nasi lemak is deteriorating. i remember how back in first year, the sambal was super spicy but now, i dun think its that spicy anymore (either they made it less spicy now or my tolerance is getting higher). and somehow i was feel my tummy doesnt feel very right each time after a meal there. but its still a relatively good place to go to if i have that sudden craving for msian food. we ended the night with dessert @ freddos - green tea and roche : )

the not very appetizing looking nasi lemak

keng seng is quite gelojoh : P

but i am worse, because i dun have to eat to look gelojoh : (

Oreo

currently listening to : 我在哭 - 萧敬腾

yesterday was eventful indeed. my day started off quite bad. but it progressively got better : ) yumcha @ sharks fin house with kaisin, bting, ming,
wee jie and darren. it was my first time at this branch of sharks fin house. i was surprised that it has 3 floors but has no stairway. therefore, customers have to move in and out via 1 very slow lift. the dimsums were also carted to us in snail mode leaving us with long intervals between each dish. the food was average but what annoyed me most was, i ordered tau foo fah from a waiter after waiting for more than 15 mins for it to appear on the carts. the waiter came back and said "sorry our tau foo fah sold out already". there i was complaining to my friends why such a huge restaurant dun have sufficient tau foo fah to serve its customers. after paying for our food, while waiting for the lift (remember how i mention the lift is SLOW??)..i saw a waiter pushing a cart full of dessert (tau foo fah and sai mai lo). ARGH. didnt the waiter say it was all sold out?? hphm. head to kaisin's house to lepak before our dinner with the rest of our friends @ ying thai. i found a little wonder at her house which i so feel like kidnapping : P OREO is my new found love : ) n i so want to get a puppy in the near future. actually, make it 2 : a shih-tzu and a beagle would be perfect for my home : D

kaisin, bting, ming and i played cards and chat/gossip the entire afternoon. and im going miss bting and ming when they head home for good this july. dinner at ying thai with the rest of the imu ppl were good, except we waited for half an hour or so before we manage to get a table (despite making reservations). dessert was at san churros (again!). holidays are wonderful..and how i wish they would never end : )

Baking Set

currently listening to : no air - jordin sparks feat chris brown

my time in sydney was spent binging on cakes and desserts of all sorts (think tiramisu @ gloria jeans, hazelnut choc cake at lindt's, chocolate cheese cake @ chocol'art etc). despite being back in melbourne for a week already, im still stuck in the habit of wanting to scoff down 1 cake per day. it's always like that, once i start binging i can't stop! bad for the weight and pocket. to satisfy my craving, im thinking of investing on a set baking utensils. but once again, there's always the money issue. actually its the fact i wonder if i'll really put those utensils to use once my clinicals start that is pulling me back on buying them. decisions decisions. if i have to choose between a new ipod and a set of baking utensils..i'll probably choose the ipod though. at least i know i'll use that everyday : )
